Yeah, pretty reasonable set of issues. We threw the demo together at great speed and it shows.

Trazzle-wise - we're using Logmeister under the hood which supports Monster and Trace: https://github.com/FrancisVarga/LogMeister

(We are not unfriendly to Windows developers, we just don't have any Windows boxes to test on :)

SWFAddress issue? Interesting. Could you open an issue on Github with the full errors?

Downloaded BirdBase demo from GitHub, has few of issues:
• seems the 'resources' directory is missing from bin-debug and can't load configuration.yml
• seems we need to 'search for fonts' - for demo possibly use generic fonts like Arial?
• Use trace or Monster Debugger instead of Trazzle? (I am a Mac user, but you're not helping Windows users)
• FDT shows error in SWF Address source, maybe sway for library SWC?
Could you possibly recheck & resubmit an up-to-date version to GitHub?

You're quite right, but 2.5 works better :)

As of right now, it works in production just fine - so far. The project seems to have been inactive for a long time now, but it's the only thing we've got. BirdBase doesn't directly use it, but rather integrates it via the as3-navigator library written by Eric-Paul (https://github.com/epologee/navigator-as3).

I think:

1. It's fine to use in BirdBase.

2. That none of know if and when it will stop working.

3. We should be prepared for that time and ensure that project managers, account handlers and team leads know that this might happen :)

4. Even if development is dead, that doesn't mean it doesn't work. Go for it.

Hello!

The 2.5 version is a beta version, old, but never out.
The current release is still 2.4:
http://www.asual.com/swfaddress/

And it seems the project is dead now:
Asual, the author of SWFaddress has moved on Github - https://github.com/asual
And works on Java/JavaScript projects. No more on SWFaddress :(

Are you sure it's cool to use it in birdbase?

That is an excellent idea - I never even thought of it. Yup, simply put all the translations into the configuration and load them dynamically as you like - with the default under "strings" and everything else under their language :)

Thanks! Helps a lot. I have a slightly different case. I need to load two locales at start and switch them at runtime. It's not a problem at all 'cause I should be able to put two sets of strings with different suffix into configuration and then swap them when I need to.
I'll try it.

Nested views and states?

Well, Eric-Paul (author of the Navigator) and I have discussed this too, it proved a little more complex than I would have liked but it does work.

By and large, I used sub-views not managed by the Navigator for one site, but that wasn't entirely satisfactory. So I hacked it with this:

 [PostConstruct]
 public function constructed():void
 {
 addEventListener( Event.ADDED, handleAdded, true );
 }

 private function handleAdded( event:Event ):void
 {
 if( navigationContainer )
 {
 if( this == navigationContainer.parent && this.numChildren > 0
 && this.getChildIndex( navigationContainer ) != this.numChildren - 1)
 {
 this.setChildIndex( navigationContainer, numChildren - 1 );
 }
 }
 }

Which simply shifted the child index up to the top again for the navigation. Not ideal, AT ALL :)

But if you give us more info about what you're trying to do, then maybe I can get get Eric-Paul out of hiding to discuss this with.

Nice hint! Thanks. Also I'm in a middle of struggling with nested views, nested states. 've already figured out how to add nesting using ViewRecipe. But there are some other problems. I'll try to fix them myself for the sake of learning.

But also, here's the short answer ;)

in
ConfigurationService
, line 78, you will see:

textService.strings = d.strings;

So all you need to do, at the most basic level, is set a Dictionary of key-value pairs, of the new strings. So you could simply:

[Inject]
public var textService:ITextService;

At the top of your class, load in a YML file and decode it to a dictionary:

var d:Dictionary = YAML.decode( e.target.data ) as Dictionary;
textService.strings = d.strings;

More info shortly.
